Obeetee, a name synonymous with quality and reliability, was established in 1920 and Incorporated in 1932. Today, it is a leading Indian manufacturer and exporter of exquisite hand knotted and hand tufted woollen rugs, Kilim and dhurries. In 1997, Obeetee Inc. was established in New York, and handles the marketing and distribution of rugs within the USA and Canada.
Internationally recognized for its high quality, Obeetee has received the Government of India award as the largest exporter of rugs several times over the last decade. Moreover, Obeetee, a pioneer of numerous manufacturing processes, including unique dyeing and washing techniques, is also the world’s first licensee of the ‘Woolmark’ for hand - knotted rugs in 1969, and the first handmade rug company in the world to be a brand partner with the ‘Wools of New Zealand’ mark in 1997.
Obeetee rugs have been sold in the USA from the 1940’s and are retailed at reputed department stores and speciality stores. Obeetee’s products have gained immense popularity in the U.K., Germany, France, Italy, Holland, Switzerland, Argentina, Singapore, New Zealand and Japan. All over the world, Obeetee enjoys a good reputation in terms of large-scale program merchandising. A few of our prestigious projects have involved the carpeting of illustrious and historic properties worldwide.
At Obeetee we take our social and environmental responsibilities seriously. We were the first in the industry in India to set up an effluent treatment plant and an air pollution control system for the smoke emitted from our boiler chimney. Today, because of this, the fields behind our factory are lush with paddy. Social welfare, too, has always been a priority with Obeetee. We encourage and support the local school system within the weaving belt. Not only does Obeetee offer the highest remuneration to the weavers, but also, uses the safest of dyes and chemicals, thereby ensuring the continuing health of the artisans.
